Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive in Ushuaia, Argentina

Your Antarctica cruise starts in Ushuaia, the most southerly city in the world. It is also known as the capital of Tierra del Fuego in which it neatly sits amongst mountains and endless wild spaces.

You will be greeted by one of our representatives who will escort you to your hotel where you will stay for the night. This is an excellent opportunity to explore Ushuaia. Perhaps visit the Museo Marítimo y del Presidio de Ushuaia or go for a hike in Tierra del Fuego National Park which is a short bus ride away.

Day 2 - Embarkation in Ushuaia

Today your expedition starts in the evening. You are free to explore Ushuaia a little further before you are transferred to the pier of Ushuaia for embarkation.

The Ocean Endeavour will set sail into the Beagle Channel, where standing on the deck, you will be treated to incredible mountain views. Keep a lookout for Magellanic penguins, rock cormorants, petrels and black-browed albatross from the deck as well as sea lion colonies.

A welcome dinner will be served tonight. With excitement in the air as we head out, this is a perfect time to meet your shipmates.

Day 3-4 - Crossing the Drake Passage

Leaving the Beagle Channel behind we head out into the Drake Passage. Although there may be some rough seas ahead this journey is a must do adventure. Famously unpredictable, you can spend the time watching the horizon from the panoramic observation windows or brave the elements outside on the deck. As your Antarctic cruise crosses the Antarctic Convergence there is a chance you will spot icebergs, whales and many species of seabirds.

Continuing southwards, we may reach landfall by early evening on Day 4.

Day 5-7 - South Shetlands & Antarctica

For the next three days, we explore the South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula. This area is famed for its majestic mountains, glaciers, imposing icebergs, ice-strewn waters and abundance of wildlife.

Every day you will have the opportunity to cruise on a zodiac exploring hidden coves, floating icebergs, channels and landing sites. There will need to be some flexibility depending on weather conditions but your Antarctica cruise will make the most of wildlife viewing opportunities. The aim will be to explore penguin rookeries, seal colonies and seek out whale feeding areas. There's also a few historical sites dotted around the area.

As your cruise sails down the Antarctic Peninsula, you can enjoy zodiac expeditions, lecture programmes, sightseeing from Ocean Endeavour's deck and enjoy the warmth of a jacuzzi or sauna.

Day 8-9 - Crossing the Drake Passage

Hopefully, weather permitting, we will be able to make one more shore landing today before we depart Antarctica and head back across the Drake Passage. As we sail home, you can stand up on deck on the lookout for whales and seabirds. Your expedition team will be on hand to help you spot marine wildlife. Alternatively, there will be some final presentations and lectures by polar experts.

Day 10 - Disembarkation in Ushuaia

This sadly is your final morning on the Ocean Endeavour. After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your journey home.

However, if you would prefer to stay on the South American continent why not visit Patagonia and the infamous Torres del Paine or some of the best walking trails in the world at El Chalten? Send us an enquiry for more information.
